Squat: 355 Clean: 225
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
1st Team All-District(*JR)
Notes: Nino is yet another shinning star in a long line of tremendous Edcouch-Elsa quarterbacks. Looking to lead Edcouch-Elsa to their 6th consecutive district title, this 3-year letterman has proven to be a multi-dimensional athlete. Last year, Nino rushed for over 700 yards and passed for nearly 1,000 yards. With a firm grasp of the reigns, look for Nino to play a large role in Edcouch-Elsa's winning ways.

Notes: Sanchez often plays like a man among boys. His intensity and bone-jarring hits on the field may cause opposing running backs to think twice. Sanchez enters his 3rd year as a starter and 2nd year as the main anchor (middle line-backer) for the E-E THUNDER defense. Sanchez is expected to have another tremendous season where he leads the teams in tackles.

Jr. Highlights Reel 2007
NCSA Recruiting Profile
Notes: Tanguma will likely be the most widely watch player on the team this season. Standing at a massive 6'4", Tanguma basket-like hands make for a great Nino-to-Tanguma connection up the middle. Should his blocking service be needed, he can also be a 6th down-lineman at the TE position. This pre-season all-state candidate has over 20 different colleges expressing interest in him.
Garica, Felix
Name: Felix Garcia
Pos: CB Hgt: 5'8"
Wgt: 160 40 yd.: 4.6
Vert: 28" Bench: 155
Squat: 275 Clean: 165
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
Honorable Mention (JR)
Notes: As a 3-year letter man and starter, Garcia will be the most experienced DB in the defensive backfield. Garcia is probably best remembered for his outstanding performance against Mission High. In that game, it was his 2 second-half interception returns for TD helped lift the Jackets over the Eagles. As the team's leader in interceptions, look for Garcia to come through in the clutch when the Defense needs a big stop.
Ysmael Ybarra - #31 John Castillo - #56 Paul Gomez - #53 Sal Valladolid - #74
Ybarra, Ysmael
Name: Ysmael Ybarra
Pos: SS Hgt: 5'11"
Wgt: 175 40 yd.: 4.95
Vert: 24" Bench: 215
Squat: 355 Clean: 205
Letter(s): 2
Honors:
Honorable Mention (JR)
Notes: Ybarra saw consistent playing time in one of the district's stingiest defensive backfield this past season. His great field of vision allows him to play both the run and pass to precision. Look for Ybarra to be the man putting the finishing hits on his opponents.
Castillo, John
Name: John Castillo
Pos: DT Hgt: 5'10"
Wgt: 250 40 yd.: 5.54
Vert: 20" Bench: xxx
Squat: 405 Clean: 225
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
2nd Team All-District
Notes: After losing an all-state defensive tackle, Castillo was called in to fill some big shoes during his sophomore year. Now entering his senior season, Castillo is the seasoned veteran on the defensive line, naturally, he assumes the role of anchor of that line.
Gomez, Paul
Name: Paul Gomez
Pos: DE Hgt: 5'10"
Wgt: 255 40 yd.: 5.3
Vert: 22" Bench: 325
Squat: 605 Clean: 265
Letter(s): 3
Notes: Gomez is probably the most explosive player on the defense, he is also one of the strongest. His unpredicatable demeanor makes him a constant threat to would-be blockers. Look for Gomez to have a break out year, especially if the E-E defense makes a transtions to a three-man front.
Valladolid, Sal
Name: Salvador Valladolid
Pos: T/C Hgt: 5'10"
Wgt: 230 40 yd.: 5.5
Vert: 17" Bench: 325
Squat: 455 Clean: 235
Letter(s): 2
Honors:
2nd Team All-District(JR)
Notes: Valladolid was a contriubting factor in making the 4000-yard season (total offensive) a reality. With the departure of an all-state center, it is not certain whether he will be asked to rekindle his experience as a center or remain at the tackle position. In either case, look for Valladolid to take senority on this year's offensive line.
Joseph Garcia - #03 Luis Garcia - #78 Frank Rodriguez - #58 Alex Cisneros - #81
Garcia, Joseph
Name: Joseph Garcia
Pos: DB Hgt: 5'9"
Wgt: 140 40 yd.: 4.8
Vert: 24" Bench: 200
Squat: 350 Clean: 200
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
2nd Team All-District(JR)
Notes: Garcia returns as the most decorated defensive back. Last season, he finished the season with 4 interceptions and earned himself a reputation for making some big hits with his small frame. Look for Garcia to continue his dominant ways and for even bigger hits, since he is coming off a great off season.
Garcia, Luis
Name: Luis Garcia
Pos: DT Hgt: 5'11"
Wgt: 285 40 yd.: 5.6
Vert: 19" Bench: 315
Squat: 545 Clean: 245
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
1st Team All-District (JR)
Notes: Don't let his 285 pound frame fool you, Garcia has one of the quickest steps off the ball on the defensive line. His quick feet and agility make him a potential threat for opposing offenses in the middle. All of which allows for the MLB to roam freely Garcia returns as the other top-rated returning defensive lineman.
Rodriguez, Frank
Name: Frank Rodriguez
Pos: DE Hgt: 6'1"
Wgt: 240 40 yd.: 5.2
Vert: 22" Bench: 315
Squat: 455 Clean: 225
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
Honorable Mention (JR)
Notes: After working his way into the starting line-up late into last season, Rodriguez has continued to show signs of being capable of filling the shoes of the departed all-state DE Jerry Galvan. Rodriguez possess the size to contain of the outside. Look for Rodriguez to have a big year this season.
Cisneros, Alex
Name: Alex Cisneros
Pos: WR Hgt: 6'1"
Wgt: 195 40 yd.: 4.9
Vert: 27" Bench: 245
Squat: 315 Clean: 225
Letter(s): 3
Notes: Despite standing at 6'1", Cisneros has quietly been the second receiver for the last 2 seasons. He will finally have his chance to shine this upcoming season. During the 7-on-7 season, Cisneros has been one of the key targets for QB Eric Nino. Don't expect too much difference as Cisneros' trusty hands will make him Nino's deep threat.

Other Prospects
Name: Miguel Garcia - #09
Pos: K/P Hgt: x'x"
Wgt: xxx 40 yd.: x.xx
Vert: xx" Bench: xxx
Squat: xxx Clean: xxx
Letter(s): 3
Honors:
2nd Team All-District(JR)
Notes: For the 2nd consecutive year, Garcia will be expected to handle all the kicking and punting duties for Edcouch-Elsa this upcoming season. Last season, Garcia booted 29 extra points and 2 field goal. However, Garcia was recognized last season for his punting ability. His performance earned him 2nd team honors in 32-4a.
Casares, Justin
Name: Justin Casares - #04
Pos: QB/WR Hgt: 5'9"
Wgt: 190 40 yd.: x.x
Vert: xx" Bench: xxx
Squat: xxx Clean: xxx
Letter(s): 2
Notes: Casares will begin the season as the team's all-purpose player. Although may assume the role of backup QB, Casares will be competing for playing time at either the running back or wide receiver postions. Look for Casares to step into a leadership role this season.
Rendon, Roy
Name: Roy Rendon - #20
Pos: DB Hgt: 5'9"
Wgt: 150 40 yd.: 4.8
Vert: 25" Bench: 175
Squat: 315 Clean: 175
Letter(s): 1
Notes: Rendon is a dedicated player who will bring a great deal of enthusiaism to the team this upcoming season. In addition to fighting for the final starting spot in the defensive secondary, look for him to make a lot of noise as a special teams specialist.
Vargas, Jorge
Name: Jorge Vargas - #50
Pos: LB Hgt: 5'7"
Wgt: 150 40 yd.: 5.0
Vert: 24" Bench: 230
Squat: 315 Clean: 215
Letter(s): 2
Notes: Vargas bring the element of speed and strength to this year's LB crew. He was a participant in the powerlifting team for the past two years. This is a testament to his work ethic.

Brandon Reyna - #44 Aaron Saenz - #xx Alex Garcia - #52 Jesse Jalomo - #12
Reyna, Brandon
Name: Brandon Reyna
Pos: OLB Hgt: 5'8"
Wgt: 188 40 yd.: 5.1
Vert: xx" Bench: 205
Squat: 320 Clean: 190
Letter(s): 2
Notes: Reyna split time at the outside linebacker postion last season. However, he aims to become the out-right starter this upcoming season. A large part of his success in the past was a result of his good attitude and love for the game.
Saenz, Aaron
Name: Aaron Saenz
Pos: OC Hgt: 5'7"
Wgt: 195 40 yd.: 5.5
Vert: 19" Bench: 205
Squat: xxx Clean: xxx
Notes: After losing the center and two guards, Saenz looks to crack the varsity starting lineup in the offensive line. Coincidentally, Saenz has experience at both the guard and center positions. As the J.V. center this past season, he was nearly perfect with only one fumbled exchange to QB.
Garcia, Alex
Name: Alex Garcia
Pos: DE Hgt: 5'8"
Wgt: 205 40 yd.: 5.3
Vert: 21" Bench: 270
Squat: 365 Clean: 205
Letter(s): 2
Notes: Garcia is another backup that looks to emerge as a starter this season. Garcia had a very sucessful off-season where he continued to develop his strength and speed. Look for him to fight for a starting postion on the D-Line and excel as a special teams specialist.
Jalomo, Jesse
Name: Jesse Jalomo
Pos: SS/WR Hgt: 5'11"
Wgt: 155 40 yd.: 5.0
Vert: 26" Bench: 185
Squat: 265 Clean: 185
Letter(s): 2
Notes: Dubbed as the top Junior for 2008, Jalomo proved to be the team's wild-card last season. Jalomo saw action as a wide receiver, but saw more action as a defensive back. With a defensive secondary that appears to be loaded, Jalomo may become that second wide receiver.
Xavier Perez - #xx Roger Garcia - #32 Lupe Garcia - #xx Issac Prado - #xx
Perez, Xavier
Name: Xavier Perez
Pos: RB Hgt: 5'9"
Wgt: 150 40 yd.: 4.9
Vert: 25" Bench: 190
Squat: 315 Clean: 190
Notes: Perez split time on the JV last season as a defensive back and running back for the team. His explosive speed makes him an potential thread at either position. Look for Perez to compete for the varsity starting spot at running back.
Garcia, Roger
Name: Roger Garcia
Pos: RB Hgt: x'xx"
Wgt: xxx 40 yd.: x.xx
Vert: xx" Bench: xxx
Squat: xxx Clean: xxx
Letter(s): 2
Notes: Garcia had a break out season for the Jacket's last year as a sophomore, which was good enough to earn him "Newcomer of the Year" honors. It was Garcia’s low center of gravity and knack for finding the open hole which allowed him to earn the starting job three games into the season. He would finish as the team's second leading rusher with a little over 675 yards. Look for Garcia to not only lead the team in rushing this season, but to be in the race for 32-4a district's rushing title.
Garcia, Lupe
Name: Lupe Garcia
Pos: OG Hgt: 6'0"
Wgt: 220 40 yd.: 5.8
Vert: 20" Bench: 205
Squat: 315 Clean: 195
Letter(s): 1
Notes: Garcia has developed a mean-streak that makes him a contender for a starting position on the interior of the offensive line. In addition to the good attitude, Garcia has seen improvments in his agility and foot-speed.
Prado, Issac
Name: Issac Prado
Pos: DB Hgt: 5'10"
Wgt: xxx 40 yd.: 5.0
Vert: xx" Bench: 135
Squat: 240 Clean: 155
Notes: This 1 year letterman winner saw limited action last year at the varsity level. Used primarily during special defensive packages, Prado hopes to compete for the only open position (safety) in the defensive backfield.

Squat: 305 Clean: 185
Notes: Latigo possess many traits of a good football player. However, it was his performance during spring ball that might earn him a position on the varsity squad. Look for Latigo to help fill in the gaps for an offensive line that lacks depth.
Martinez, Branden
Name: Branden Martinez
Pos: RB Hgt: 5'8"
Wgt: 155 40 yd.: 5.0
Vert: 24" Bench: 195

Wgt: u>230 40 yd.: 5.5
Vert: 20" Bench: 235

Garcia, Rico
Name: Ricardo Garcia
Pos: DB Hgt: 5'9"
Wgt: 140 40 yd.: 5.3
Vert: 22" Bench: 155
Squat: 275 Clean: 155
Notes: At the cornerback postion, Ricardo was a force to reckoned with. He specialized in stopping the run. Opposing teams at the lower levels often ran the ball to the opposite side to avoid him.
Sal Martinez - #xx Estevan Perez - #xx Josh Ruiz - #xx Danny Villarreal - #xx
Martinez, Sal
Name: Sal Martinez
Pos: LB Hgt: 5'9"
Wgt: 165 40 yd.: 5.3
Vert: 24" Bench: 180

Notes: Martinez falls into the category of being another quailty linebacker that could potentially earn some playing time because of his size and speed. Special teams contributions will be big for this sophomore.
Name: Estevan Perez
Pos: DB Hgt: x'x"
Wgt: xxx 40 yd.: x.x
Vert: xx" Bench: xxx
Squat: xxx Clean: xxx
Notes: Perez brings a great deal of talent to the table, which compliments his attitude nicely. Injury has slowed him down last season, however, he is expected to have a successful campaign this year.

Name: Josh Ruiz

Wgt: 155 40 yd.: 5.1
Vert: 24" Bench: 190
Squat: 315 Clean: 170
Notes: Ruiz is another sophomore linebacker that could potentially earn some playing time because of his size and speed. In either case, Ruiz's contributions to the special teams will definitely be a huge threat for the opponents.
Villarreal, Danny
Name: Danny Villarreal
Pos: DT Hgt: 5'8"
Wgt: 205 40 yd.: x.x
Vert: xx" Bench: xxx
Squat: xxx Clean: xxx
Notes: Villarreal has a knack of finding the ball. Look for him to really become a student of the game this upcoming season.
